Formation of EastendHomes Lease/Freeholders Association

Note Links open in new page

We now have an Acting Committee of 20 committed leaseholders from across the Borough and and will shortly be putting out information on all EeH estates about our first General Meeting.

This will be an open invitation to all leaseholders and freeholders to meet to discuss ideas for our campaign to bring about real change in all the areas that concern us:

  • Dispute Resolution.
  • External Audit of leaseholder charges. Value for Money.
  • Driving down costs.
  • Major Works Consultation
  • Methodology for allocation and apportionment of charges, (especially admin and management where we expect big increases).
  • Double Accounting in communal areas
  • The £10,000 Cap

We also want to raise the possibility of specific leaseholder representation on the Main Board of EeH, to ensure our interests are fully taken into account by the organization's decision-making and governing body.
Forming a borough-wide group is already beginning to get results -

  • after waiting incredibly patiently for two years, EeHlfa's acting Vice-Chair, Gloria Thienel from Island Gardens is meeting with EeH Chief Executive Paul Bloss, to start the dialogue on all the issues of common concern to leaseholders - Go Glo!!! (web-site here)
  • Leaseholders from Denning Point on Holland Estate have also been graced with an invitation to meet with Mr Bloss about their concerns. The outcome of these meetings will be fed back to EeHlfa and discussed at our next meeting in November.

EeHlfa also wants to build on its links with all EeH estate residents, tenants, leaseholders and freeholders, as we are all equally affected by the problems on our estates - it is no more reasonable for tenants to pay rent for poor services than for leaseholders to be charged for them.

  1. We have been working closely with the new residents groups on Holland, Eric and Treby and Bede Estates on the wider concerns of all EeH residents:
  2. We have already sent a joint letter to Marc Francis, Lead Councillor for Housing & Planning about residents' concerns and objections to EeH planning proposals for our estates.
  3. We hope to follow this up with a meeting with Cllr Francis - top of the agenda will be EeH current planning proposals for Eric & Treby Estates and residents' objections
  4. We also intend to follow up queries about EeH' as a 'community-led housing provider' - see here for some background information on what the Council intended when they set up EeH.as a new landlord to take over its estates. In a nutshell, our question is 'Is EeH Walking its Talk'?
  5. These are the sort of questions the Tenant Services Authority and the Audit Commission are interested in, as the bodies that regulate housing providers like EeH. We will therefore send these questions to them.

We have made a start, but we know there is a long way to go -  now we need all leaseholders and freeholders to get involved - we need your support to:

  • bring about real change
  • make EeH walk its talk
  • make sure that EeH residents really get the housing management service we were promised and that we decide

Please use the leaseholder section to post comment and feedback, e-mail us on eehlfa@btinternet.com or phone us on 07943 373699
- our own website is coming soon!

Meanwhile, watch this space for further news and we look forward to seeing EeH leaseholders and freeholders from across the borough at our first meeting -  any tenants interested in joining us will also be very welcome!

Our watchword is 'Together as One'
