Disturbances in London - EastendHomes statement

last modified  09/08/2011 14:00 PM

EastendHomes is concerned to note the disorder and rioting which has taken place across London in the last few nights.

Fortunately to date this has seen limited impact on Tower Hamlets and on EastendHomes estates. Nevertheless we advise our residents to be vigilant during these disturbances.

If you witness any criminal behaviour, in an emergency you should always contact the Police on 999. The Metropolitan Police state that the volume of calls to 999 is currently four times higher than the usual, meaning you may take slightly longer to get through than usual, however this should always be the number to contact in an emergency.

If you need to contact the Police and it is not an emergency, please call 101. Using this number helps to keep 999 free for emergency calls.

To report anti-social behaviour, residents can contact EastendHomes to tell us about incidents affecting them or their property. Alternatively, the Council operates a 24-hour ASB hotline – 0800 917 5918.

EastendHomes will be contacting residents who have told us in the past that they may be vulnerable, to offer reassurance and check that they are ok. We have also arranged additional bulk refuse patrols each evening to clear any dumped rubbish from our estates. We are also liaising closely with the Safer Neighbourhood Teams and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets as well as contacting any of our shop keepers who may need our support.

During this time it may be that the responsiveness of our out of hours repairs service may be affected, this is something we are closely monitoring and we are working with our contractors to minimise any impact on the service.
