Gold Star for Green-Fingered Gardener on Eric Street

last modified  23/11/2011 11:00 AM

We told you in May last year about our new community garden on Eric Estate in Mile End, which boasts the UK's first recipe tree and its own cow.

Since the opening last year the area hasn't stood still, and local residents have put their time and commitment into creating a space for the local community to enjoy.

The efforts of one of our residents have been recognised in the Daily Telegraph's Gardening Against the Odds awards, having been given an Award of Merit. The judges said that they "loved this community play garden where children can climb and elderly residents can sit". Tania Nalywajko's efforts can be seen in the fine flowering beds in the garden, and are an excellent example of what a community can achieve working together.
