Residents of Holland estate, in Spitalfields, have voted by a substantial majority to transfer to EastendHomes.
EastendHomes will now invest more than £15 million over the next five years on a major programme of improvements for the homes and the estate.
Just over 70% of eligible tenants took part in the ballot, with almost three quarters (74%) voting in favour of the move. Leaseholders also voted in favour of a transfer to EastendHomes.
Proposals for the regeneration of the estate were worked out in consultation with residents. Plans include new kitchens and bathrooms, the installation of lifts to a number of blocks and an extensive programme of additional improvements including measures to increase security on the estate.
Martin Young Chair of EastendHomes said:
“EastendHomes is pleased to have such a convincing and clear result in the ballot. We look forward now to completing work on the transfer and to ensuring that all tenants and residents benefit from the estate improvement programme and proposals for a new local housing service.”
Tower Hamlets Lead Councillor for Housing David Edgar said: "This is good news for Holland residents. They will enjoy the same security of tenure as they have with the council, their rents will be set in exactly the same way - but they will also see a transformation of their homes and estates."
