Mural painting gets underway
Morgan Stanley volunteers got paint happy while helping create a colorful community mural in Island Gardens.
Along with schoolchildren, artists and a local social enterprise the Canary Wharf employees created the work in a busy shopping area on Manchester Road.
Using the theme of "Our People, Our Planet", the winning design from a competition at George Green School on the Isle of Dogs was bought to life using spray cans and cut-out templates of children and volunteers.
James Miller, volunteering manager for Morgan Stanley, said: "It was brilliant to work with the young people from George Green. They showed a lot of enthusiasm and joined in all the teams. People enjoyed taking part in the painting a lot, and we're really pleased with the result."
The work was painted last Tuesday on behalf of the Signs of Life public art social enterprise at the Bromley-by-Bow Centre with the aim of improving public spaces.
The design features local people together against a background of the River Thames, Canary Wharf and the planet.
The project has been made possible by funding from EastendHomes and Morgan Stanley Foundation.
